Even lying on the floor can be aspirational. If we do it well enough, can we become green?

The Onion headline says:
“An Increasing Number of Women are Leaving the Workplace
To Pursue Lying Facedown on the Floor Full-time”
A department of labor report suggests,
Lying motionless in utter resignation on nights and weekends
Is no longer enough
For most women.
They deserve more.
They won’t settle.
Unless its prone,
Eye level with the dust bunnies.
This is groundbreaking.

Early adopters, my ancestors, would subtly arrange
A fainting pillow before the fall.
I descend from planners, realists.
One last fluff…
And she broke the glass floor.
May we all learn to pre-cushion our landings.
We content ourselves with lying in shards
As long as we can grab a blessed escape.
Hey girls, it’s not that bad down here!

Lie here long enough
And our extremities sink into the matrix
making connections with the mycelia networks.
We eavesdrop on the trees.
Lie here long enough
And we hibernate with purring
Warm bodies curled around our rumps, behind our knees and in the
hollow of our throats
Lie here long enough
And we suspend for seventeen years
Then toss our exoskeletons
and scream for sex.
