You must stay drunk on writing so reality cannot destroy you. -Ray Bradbury
Writer’s Block Party on Facebook:
I have facilitated a group for writers (broadly including all “word creatives”) on Facebook since…oh my goodness, 2014? Almost seven years now. It has become an eclectic, smart, and compassionate group that I receive so much support and inspiration from on literally a daily basis. Long live Writer’s Block Party, I love you guys. If you are reading this, and you are a writer/word creative and looking for support, resources, interesting related conversation- consider joining our group. Or rather “request” to join our group and you will only be subject to mild hazing. No biggie.
I guess this would be considered “Illuminous adjacent” but through my position at Lodi Whittier Library I moderate a weekly meet-up via zoom for writers every Wednesday at 6pm. We have six to eight regular participants for discussion, sharing, and networking. We also sporadically welcome “special guests” into our midst and pepper them with questions. All you detail oriented folks might notice I keep falling into “writer support” rather than “writerS support”, I am vexed by the S, is it plural, is it possessive, is it both or neither, does it just slide into the S in support anyway when I say it out loud… A lot to consider. Anyways, this group is open to all writers of any type of experience level.
Just an FYI, Open Mic Sharing & Listening Space is taking a hiatus. First it was because of my own health issues and now due to the COVID pandemic. I’m not certain when, if, how this gathering will return. I did have a little dream about an outdoor open mic taking place in different settings that would inspire the content…fun, right? But for right now, our former home Sacred Root Kava and Tea Bar is open for business. The proprietors, Judi and Paul Galgoczy, are very responsible and conscientious about covid protocols. Please give them your business, we need Sacred Root in our community, supporting our artists. They offer both sit-down and to-go options.
