every firefly knows that

Before Dawn

Can you give yourself permission to revel in the darkness?
Let it enfold you in velvety softness, its caress is harmless
the darkness can be shelter, and too much light can burn
so please don’t scold yourself if you’re in the dark again

What if you could trust the growth under the surface?
and save your breath to fan the embers in your furnas
water hidden seeds with your salty tears
there can be no courage where there are no fears

If you trust the darkness light will follow
Look, there’s an “allow” in every wallow
in darkness we gestate, in darkness there’s rest
even the darkest night can be a safety nest

It’s safe to curl into a ball, lick your wounds, and let it be messy
honoring our pain is as valuable as counting our blessings
don’t fight your pain. compost it. turn shit into gold
alchemy is in your nature, there are treasures in your folds.

so let yourself fumble, be humbled, I promise you won’t crumble
if you rest your muscles. Every cave is essentially a tunnel…
dead ends invite you to turn back and walk towards the light
but first, recharge. And when you’re ready, unfurl, and take flight.
